Alert Level 5 (Full Lockdown)
South Africa went into Lockdown (Alert Level 5) on the 26 March 2020 for 35 days.
On 1 May 2020, South Africa shifted into what is called the COVID-19 Risk-Adjusted Strategy. This strategy is a system that distinguishes between five different levels of restrictions, from the highest being Alert Level 5 (which is the same as what we had under Lockdown) to the lowest being Level 1.
Initially, return to work will be based on the national level, but will progressively be expanded to provincial and district level, enabling workplaces to adapt to the level of infection and healthcare readiness in its locality.
Alert Level 5 is the most restrictive of all the alert levels, with only essential services permitted under sectors.
We have developed a range of toolkits for each level of lockdown to assist you as a business.
The Western Cape is currently at Adjusted Alert Level 3.
