Accommodation establishments are allowed to operate from 1 June, but not for leisure purposes.
ACCOMMODATION ESTABLISHMENTS ARE ALLOWED TO OPERATE FROM 1 JUNE, BUT NOT FOR LEISURE PURPOSES.
- The Minister of Tourism, in a media briefing on 26 June 2020 stated that, for example, booking into a hotel for the weekend with your family for leisure purposes/ for “holiday” is not allowed.
The amended regulations further state that accommodation establishments not formally accredited and licensed, such as private homes for paid leisure accommodation, must remain closed to the public under Alert Level 3.
- In a media briefing on 26 June 2020, the Department of Tourism elaborated on this saying that accommodation establishments are permitted to open, would include those establishments that are zoned as accommodation providers for commercial purposes.
The Minister of Tourism also explained that reference to travel for leisure purposes as allowed under Alert Level 3 in the amended regulations refers to self-drive excursions as permitted.
