What are the rules related to the wearing of masks under Adjusted Alert Level 3?
Wearing a face mask (cloth face mask or homemade item that covers the nose and mouth), is mandatory for every person when in a public place.
Any person who fails to comply with a verbal instruction by an enforcement officer to wear a face mask, commits an offence and is, on conviction, liable to a fine or a period of imprisonment no longer than 6 months, or to both fine and imprisonment.
Without wearing a mask, nobody is allowed to:
- use, operate or perform any service on any form of public transport,
- be in a building, place or premises, including government buildings, used by the public to obtain goods or services, or
- be in any public open space (unless performing vigorous exercise, and maintaining a distance a of at least one and a half metres from any other person).
An employer may not allow an employee to enter the employment premises or perform any duties if the employee is not wearing a face mask.
